Hardcover. Condition: fine. Dust jacket condition: good. Cover has minor shelf wear to head and tail of spine. Jacket has small chips and rubbing to head and tail of spine; small tear to tail of back panel; spine is faded. Small octavo; xviii + 409 pp. Gilt lettering on black cloth boards. Binding and hinges are tight; clean, bright copy with no markings. In March 1864, William T. Sherman replaced General Ulysses Grant as commander of the Military Division of the Mississippi, which included the Departments of the Ohio, Cumberland, Tennessee, and Arkansas. Thereafter, Sherman led the campaigns to Atlanta and Savannah, and, by the end of the war, northward through South and North Carolina. Sherman’s memoirs were published originally in two volumes in 1875. This edition combines the two volumes into one.
