Gilded lettering on spine of brown buckram cover. Binding and hinges sound; clean copy, no markings. Collection of letters written by Pvt. William F. Margraff, inducted into the Union army May 1861, served Company H of 6th Pennsylvania Regiment, killed in action Antietam, 17 September 1862. Collection includes thirty-two letters written by Margraff to his family, dated between his enlistment at Camp Curtin in Harrisburg PA until eleven days before his death, and sent from various camps and battlefields. The letters were found by chance in a trash dump in 1969; they were salvaged and compiled for publication by Paul Janeski, and issued in a limited printing. A rare title.
